Product Description

This model consists of 22 separate bone components. Except for the mandible, all other cranial bones are tightly connected via sutures and plugs, functioning to protect and support the brain, sensory organs, as well as the initial segments of the digestive and respiratory systems.

Divided by the connecting line between the supraorbital margin and the superior margin of the external acoustic meatus, the cranium is split into the neurocranium and viscerocranium.

The neurocranium lies at the posterior upper part of the skull, made up of 8 bones: paired parietal and temporal bones, plus unpaired frontal, sphenoid, occipital and ethmoid bones, forming the cranial cavity to hold the brain.

The viscerocranium occupies the anterior lower skull, composed of 15 bones: paired maxilla, zygomatic, nasal, lacrimal, palatine and inferior nasal concha bones, as well as unpaired vomer, mandible and hyoid bone. These bones form the bony framework of the orbit, nasal cavity, oral cavity and human face.
