Product Description

The human pharynx is divided into three sections: nasopharynx, oropharynx and laryngopharynx.

1. The nasopharynx lies between the base of the skull and the soft palate plane, communicating forward with the nasal cavity via posterior nasal apertures. The pharyngeal openings of the auditory tubes on its bilateral walls connect to the middle ear tympanic cavity. The pharyngeal recess on the posterior wall is a predilection site for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
2. The oropharynx is located between the soft palate and the superior edge of the epiglottis, connecting forward to the oral cavity through the oropharyngeal isthmus, with palatine tonsils on its lateral walls.
3. The laryngopharynx extends from the superior edge of the epiglottis down to the inferior margin of the 6th cervical vertebra. It communicates forward with the laryngeal cavity via the laryngeal inlet and descends to the esophagus. The piriform recesses on both sides of the laryngeal inlet are common areas where foreign bodies get trapped.
